Glossary 49 APPENDIX A Glossary ASP Implementation See Replicon-Hosted/SaaS Implementation. Common Gateway Interface (CGI) A specification used by Web TimeSheet to interact with the web server. Web TimeSheet supports either CGI or ISAPI. Database Instance A named installation of the database management system. Multiple databases can exist in one instance. Database Management System Computer software designed for the purpose of managing databases. Database Platform The type of database being used. Web TimeSheet supports the SQL Server Ex- press, MSDE, SQL Server, and Oracle platforms. Integrated Windows Authentication A method for authenticating Web TimeSheet users. Users will be automatically logged in to Web TimeSheet using their Windows login name and password. Internet Information Services (IIS) Web server application software for Microsoft Windows. Web TimeSheet can be installed using IIS or Replicon’s ownweb server, which is provided with Web TimeSheet. Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) An interface used by Web TimeSheet to interact with an IIS web server. Web TimeSheet supports either ISAPI or CGI, but ISAPI typically provides better per- formance. Replicon-Hosted/SaaS Implementation A type of Web TimeSheet implementation in which the application is installed on servers managed by Replicon. The application is available to your users through the Internet, using a web address provided by Replicon or through the Customer Login section of the Replicon website. SaaS stands for Software as a Service. Self-Hosted Installation A type of Web TimeSheet implementation in which you install and manage the application and database within your organization. It is installed using a file pro- vided by Replicon and the application is available to users through your net- work. Upgrading A type of upgrade where the existing database is upgraded in place. A copy of data is not made before the changes are made. Web Server A computer that delivers (serves up) web pages.
